The sounds of gunfire rattled wildly through the clearing as they crashed into the surrounding trees, sending splinters flying from their impact. Darting along the edge of the clearing, the ranger fired a pair of arrows in rapid succession at the laughing creature in the center of the glade. Chiming laughter rang from the mirthful gargomon as it twirled about, its shots tearing through the forest. As its firearms rolled to a stop, the wizard peeked from behind her tree to launch a bolt of lightning at the creature only for it to leap into the air. Its ears flared and it drifted easily through the air as it readied its weapons for firing once more.
This one is a little different than most, but we wanted to take a crack at a Digimon, and gargomon was one of Blue's favorites. Lorewise, this takes a considerable deviation from the source material, but I tried to lean into what little I could find about its abilities. Naturally I built it as a ranged combat that is still able to mix it up in melee thanks to its bunny pummel ability though its slam attacks are much lower, damage-wise, than its gargo gatlings. It doesn't actually seem to be able to fly with its ears, but it can definitely at least glide. Finally, while gargomon is noted to be an accurate sharpshooter, I liked spray and pray as an ability for it to spread damage in a wider area with a lower cooldown to compromise for the fact that it needs to reset its gargo gatlings.
Pathfinder 1e:
Leaning into Dexterity for the Pathfinder 1e version worked well because it boosted both his ranged combat ability as well as his jumping ability thanks to Acrobatics being the skill that is used for. However, jumping got moved over to Athletics in 2e, which is Strength-based, so I kept it relatively lower while giving it a bonus specifically to the Jump action. Aside from the abilities I brought over from the PF1e version, I wanted to include a unique reaction for it, as usual. I settled on Shoot Down as a way to give it to defend itself, effectively basing it off of the Deflect Arrows class feat. One thing I did forget to bring over is that gargomon is described as a 'Hunter Digimon' and should have 'Survival +15.'
Pathfinder 2e:
Blue's D&D 5e:
While a fun monster, I struggled to figure out some good, interesting encounters for it given how congenial it is.
