Weekly Wednesday - Poison, Goblins, & Keyboards

For those who don't know, we've got a Discord channel for the blog that's all about homebrew content though we do have a focus on making monsters. A member of the server has expressed an interest in having his work shared on this blog, and I'm happy to do so! Gonna try to make this a weekly thing featuring works from others in the server and I hope to get some more people in on it.

Enervator by CoDefendant

Stomping across a worn-out road in the dark of night, a caravan is taken surprise by a horse-like abomination with jet black scales. Attempting to escape, one of the merchants catches a glimpse of the creature's eyes, and drops dead from poison. Those who live to tell the tale of this ferocious beast know only one thing- their eyes are deadly.

Bloodlust Enervators exist to kill as many sentient beings as possible before they die, and this goal is often successful, until a strong enough hero passes by. Occasionally, enervators will group together to go on an even more dangerous rampage, becoming a terrifying threat to small villages and roadside taverns.

Unknown Origin Not even the gods know who created these beasts, as it could be any evil deity, demon lord, or alchemist who is the culprit. This makes it very difficult to pin its weaknesses, as it has no such things.

Other Beasts While they hunt sentient creatures, enervators ignore non-sentient life unless threatened, leading many to believe that these foul monsters are not demonic or constructed in any nature, but rather created by unseelie fey wishing to bring back nature.

Goblin Juggernaut by CoDefendant

Blessed by Maglubiyet Goblin Juggernauts are male goblins that are usually shunned by other goblins that Maglubiyet sees unfit for the juggernaut. These outcasts are contacted by the goblin god in their sleep, and receive an order- to wander the lands like a nomad, garnering more and more strength as they go. This leads to powerful goblins with thick skin given by Maglubiyet himself that can also use inventions they create.

Deadly Contraptions While Goblin Juggernauts may be intelligent, they are still unwise. This leads to their creations blowing up when they die, which becomes equally deadly to others around them. Poison capsules are used against groups of enemies, and also act as obscuring elements that make it hard to see. Their concealed daggers are also good to use if an enemy gets too close, although bonking a foe on the head with a shovel and running away may be their best bet.

Specialists While these creatures are nomads, they still help further the goals of goblin-kind. Acting as spies, assassins, and mercenaries, these goblins are unswayed by others trying to hire them, only working for the words of Maglubiyet. This, combined with their high intelligence, makes them resistant against hypnotic effects, and it is said that theoretically, a group of Goblin Juggernauts could defeat a mind flayer colony (with immense luck).

Piano Wurm by CoDefendant

At the end of the dungeon, the adventuring party is relieved to have found the pirate captain's treasure stash, though this relief is short lived. The party's bard checks out the giant-sized piano, only for it to rise in temperature and in size, becoming a surprisingly dangerous virtuoso of beats, the Piano Wurm!

Unusual Dangers While it may seem quirky for an evil presence to lure this beast to their dungeon, Piano Wurms serve as valiant guards of treasure hoards or of bards (which they covet most). Their jaws release cacophonies of bass, while their bodies unleash heat known only to the fire realm. While a mage could quite easily take down an equally dangerous creature with powerful spells, the blaring organs on the Piano Wurm prevent somatic spells, making it nigh impossible to defeat this beast.

To the Beat Piano Wurms possess a strange flaw, that is that they are compelled to move in a pattern to their beat, losing track of monsters when they ignore this rule. Seasoned adventurers that know this limitation are free to exploit it, moving around in unusual patterns. The Piano Wurm usually wins anyways, but it makes it much more difficult for the elemental.

If you have ideas that you want to discuss, show off, or have critiqued, think about joining our Discord at https://discord.gg/W4THAs5

Hope to make this a weekly thing with a wider variety of folks, so if you're interested, lemme know!

Have a great Wednesday!
