My dad taught me to play both Dungeons & Dragons and Magic the Gathering, and it was fun marrying two of my favorite games. Presenting the highest CR for any creature I've designed thus far, here is the elder dinosaur, Tetzimoc, the Primal Death!
Ixalan was one of my favorite sets in recent Magic because it was just pure fun - pirates, vampire conquistadors, and dinosaurs? That's awesome! When I originally approached this, I designed it as simply a magical beast, but that didn't feel right so I was looking through some subtypes and I really liked what the behemoth subtype had to offer. I wanted to tie its Primal Death aspect, so I gave it an attachment to negative energy and a poison that can kill anything - even creatures normally immune to poison.
Pathfinder 1e Version:
The biggest challenge in converting the monster over to 2e was honestly figuring out all the appropriate resistances, immunities, and other behemoth traits. In particularly, I wasn't quite sure how I wanted to do ruinous. Other than that, Tetzimoc was rather straight forward though I was temporarily stumped on its spines ability.

ENCOUNTER HOOKS
Isle of Monsters: While sailing across the seas, the ship that the heroes are upon crashes into a strange island. While seeking resources to repair the ship, several crewmates are kidnapped by a tribe upon the island that fearfully worships a living god upon the island. They offer sacrifices to this god, named Tetzimoc, and intend to use the crewmates as these sacrifices. The heroes must rescue these crewmates, essential to the operation of the boat, and escape through the village before Tetzimoc, Primal Death reaches them.
From the Grave: A doomsday cult has found the slumbering Tetzimoc and seek to wake him. They are partway through the ritual when the heroes discover them, and Tetzimoc has started to stir. The array of cultists try to finish the ritual while Tetzimoc snaps out at any that step too close to its head. If not enough cultists are slain in time, Tetzimoc is fully awoken and begins to rampage in earnest.
I'll be doing more monster from MtG in the future, so look forward to that. Have a Monstrous Monday!
