As the wizard finishes his incantation, the ancient city rises from the sand, the golden particles shaking from the spires. The party readies themselves as the trembling metropolis stills, resplendent in the sun that it had once been lost to. The warrior takes the lead but manages only a single step forward before the ground erupts in front of the party in a geyser of sand. Staves flicker with arcane power as weapons are loosed from their scabbard as eyes fix on the whirling creature that then lands upon the ground, sending tremors from the impact. Armor plates clank upon its frame as a pair of menacing swords slice through the air. A strangely serpentine head fixes them with a menacing stare as the kurt zisa prepares for combat against the intruders.
I never played Kingdom Hearts, but received a request to build this fellow from one of the guys over on Discord. I looked up a couple videos and did some research before starting on this build, but if there's anything you feel that I missed, please call me out on it! Deciding on its creature type was somewhat hard - it looks like a construct to me but some of the descriptions about the kurt zisa make it sound more like an outsider, which is what I settled on. I gave it a slightly lower AC than normal because it has other defensive capabilities in its spinning swords, allowing it to spend immediate actions to deflect attacks. It does have to spend a move action to use this ability meaning that it likely won't be using it every chance that it gets. Its weapons are described as shotel, so that's what I gave it. With the kurt zisa's ability to extend its neck, I gave its bite a longer reach. The antimagic field spell doesn't exactly fit what it does with its effect, so I made the antimagic sphere ability so that the players can choose to destroy it. Path of devastation wasn't an ability that I originally included but was suggested to me by one of the guys on the Discord. Its spells are meant to reflect the abilities it displays in game while its feats are mainly about dual wielding its swords and making attacks of opportunity to stop foes in their tracks.
Pathfinder 1e:
I made a new creature trait for kurt zisa with the heartless and gave it the ability to full reflect attacks made against it with Reflect Missiles. Its abilities aren't too different for the first edition version, but I wanted to give it a way of making use of its numerous attacks and arms, which led to the creation of Tooth, Nail, and Blade.

This week was unfortunately very busy and between that and an unfortunate lack of inspiration, I wasn't able to come up with some encounter hooks that I liked. I will definitely have something fun for the next monster, which is planned to be an original monster of my favorite creature type. We have a Monster Monday Discord where we chat about stuff we're homebrewing, across a swath of systems, and just general stuff, and we also have a Twitter where you can see teasers for upcoming posts.
Have a Monstrous Monday!
